The government will contribute 50 cents for every dollar you contribute to your KiwiSaver account, up to a maximum of $521.43 each year. This contribution is based on your employee and voluntary contributions between 1 July and 30 June each year. To receive the full government contribution, ensure you have contributed $1,043 to your KiwiSaver fund by 1st July.

As an employee you will need to contact your employer and ask them to increase your contribution rate, this can be 3%, 4%, 6%, 8% or 10%.

KiwiSaver funds are not guaranteed by the government. However, they are administered by Inland Revenue to ensure proper functioning and overseen by the Financial Markets Authority to ensure compliance and ethical behavior by KiwiSaver providers. Remember, KiwiSaver providers are private companies, similar to banks.

Typically, it takes 7 - 10 business days for your funds to be transferred to your new KiwiSaver provider.

In most cases, there are no fees to transfer your KiwiSaver fund to a new provider. However, two providers, Booster and AON, charge an exit fee of $30 and $35 respectively.

No, you do not need to inform your employer. Your employer pays both employee and employer contributions to the IRD, which then passes them on to your designated KiwiSaver provider. When you switch providers, the IRD is automatically notified to direct your contributions to the new provider.
